WWHG staff pledge to raise thousands for two Welsh health charities

Two charities which provide emergency ambulance and blood transfusion assistance across Wales have been adopted by Wales & West Housing Group staff as their charity.

Over the next two years (2022-2024) 820 members of staff across the WWH Group, which includes Cambria Maintenance Services and Castell Ventures, hope to raise tens of thousands of pounds to help Wales Air Ambulance and Blood Bikes Wales. Earlier this year WWHG staff presented their outgoing charity Mind Cymru with a record total of £46,000.

The latest fundraising was launched with a raffle and other planned staff activities include running marathons, sponsored sports challenges and charity bake-offs. Some staff also donate odd number of pennies from their pay to the charities, which raises thousands of pounds every year.

Wales & West Housing’s Group Chief Executive, Anne Hinchey, said: “In recent years our amazing and generous staff have raised record amounts of money for our chosen charities, so I hope we can make a big difference to Wales Air Ambulance and Blood Bikes Wales over the next two years.

“Both charities carry out amazing work throughout Wales and neither receive any Government or National Lottery funding – they survive purely on donations from the public. We want to help them to keep delivering their life-saving work.”

“One of our staff members who nominated Wales Air Ambulance, said they were in no doubt that the speed of the service was critical in saving the life of one of our residents when they were taken ill. We are delighted to be able to support the charity’s vital work.”

Katie Macro, Campaigns Manager for the Wales Air Ambulance said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been chosen as one of Wales & West Housing Group’s charities of the year for the next two years. Support from businesses like WWHG is vital in helping us to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most.

“It sounds like Wales & West Housing Group have some exciting fundraising plans coming up and we wish them well. Their support of our lifesaving charity is much appreciated.”

Nigel Ward, Chair of Blood Bikes Wales, added: “We are thrilled that Wales & West Housing Group staff will be raising money for our charity. We wouldn’t be able to provide our free courier service to the NHS without the support of the people who help us to raise money and our team of volunteers.

“We’re looking forward to two years of fantastic fundraising.”

In March 2022, WWHG staff presented their outgoing charity Mind Cymru with a cheque for more than £46,000, a record level for fundraising. Other charities WWHG have supported in recent years include Cancer Research Wales, Stroke Association, Help for Heroes, Alzheimer’s Society, NSPCC and Tenovus.
