Safe and secure cycling

Residents at some of our schemes in Wrexham and Bridgend have been given the keys to new, secure cycle storage as part of a project to promote active travel and safe cycling.

We have partnered with Transport for Wales to fit new Cyclehoop cycle hangars at 11 of our schemes.

Each hangar has space for six cycles giving residents a secure space to store their bikes near their homes.

Victoria Joseph, Property and Estates Management Officer for Wrexham, said: “One of the biggest barriers our residents face when owning a bike is having somewhere to store it, especially if they live in flats.

“The cycle hangars are a convenient, weatherproof place where they can lock up their bikes knowing they will be safe.”

“They’re already making a difference to residents who are using them as they no longer have to struggle to carry their bikes up flights of stairs and keep them in their homes. Our residents say they’re amazing.”

Resident Charlene was allocated one of the spaces for her son Lucas’ bike.

“It’s made a big difference to us. I’m happy not to have to carry my son’s bike up and down the stairs.”

Our schemes with cycle hangars are:

Wrexham: Cadets Court, Battalion Court, Galahad Court, Newton Lodge, Maelor Place, St Marys Close, Barracksfield, Cefn-y-Nant

Bridgend: Greyfriars Court, Pen Onnen and Rhiw Las

Funded by Welsh Government, the cycle hangar project demonstrates our commitment to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard to provide lockable, outside storage for residents, if there is a need and suitable space.
