Listening to residents helps bring the community together in Tongwynlais
Residents told us they’d like more activities for children when we held a Community Conversation at Catherine Drive, Tongwynlais.
As part of the action plan drawn up from that conversation, we organised a summer fun day in August.
We worked with our partners at South Wales Police and Cardiff Council to arrange the event, which was attended by around 50 children and their parents. While the youngsters played games, bounced on a bouncy castle, tried on police uniforms and learnt about police work, parents had the opportunity to get to know their neighbours better.
The fun day was just one of the improvements we are making at Catherine Drive, which is home to more than 100 residents and their families.
Since our Community Conversation in April, we have:
- worked with Cardiff Council’s Waste Team on a pilot scheme to tackle litter and fly-tipping at the top of Catherine Drive. Individual bins and bin stores have been provided for residents in this area to address the issues, which we continue to monitor
- arranged regular litter-picking sessions with Tongwynlais Community Council
- made improvements to the site, including installing new washing lines and boundary fencing in some areas, and appointing new contractors to cut the grass
In September, our staff are also planning to involve residents in a community litter pick as part of the annual Big Cardiff Tidy.
