Applications open for new extra care scheme in Ceredigion

Ceredigion residents can now apply to be among the first to live at Aberystwyth’s new extra care scheme ahead of its opening this summer.

Located at Pen yr Angor, Trefechan, Maes y Môr will provide a supportive community of 56 apartments, allowing people to live independently in their own home with access to 24-hour on-site care and support.

It will provide a new independent living option for residents in the local area, with applications open to all adults with a care and support need.

“Extra care is very different from what people may think – each resident will have their own fully self-contained apartment – and we encourage people to enquire if they think living here is just what they need.”

Shayne Hembrow, Group Deputy Chief Executive of Wales & West Housing

Construction is well under way at the site, overlooking Aberystwyth harbour, and the scheme is set to be completed by Summer 2021. Maes y Môr will include a restaurant, gardens and terraces and spaces for socialising indoors among its features.

The scheme is being provided by Wales & West Housing in partnership with Ceredigion County Council.

Shayne Hembrow, Group Deputy Chief Executive of Wales & West Housing, said: “We’re hugely excited to be bringing our first extra care scheme to people living in Ceredigion.

“Maes y Môr has magnificent views overlooking Aberystwyth harbour and will provide much needed supported housing for people in the local area.

“The residents, many of whom will be elderly, will have the reassurance of a professional care and support team of staff at the scheme 24 hours a day.

“Extra care is very different from what people may think – each resident will have their own fully self-contained apartment – and we encourage people to enquire if they think living here is just what they need.

“We are pleased to be working in partnership with Ceredigion County Council to deliver this new facility which will make a difference to those looking for extra care living in the Aberystwyth area.”

Donna Pritchard, Ceredigion County Council’s Corporate Lead Officer for Porth Ceredigion said, “We welcome and support the Maes y Môr Extra Care Scheme in Aberystwyth to meet the need within the county.

“Maes y Môr will ensure that people can access services and support to live active, independent lives.”

Applications can be made through Ceredigion Housing Options online at ceredigionhousingoptions.cymru, by emailing housingregister@ceredigion.gov.uk or calling 01545 574123.
