Stay safe this Halloween and Bonfire Night

Happy Halloween imageDarker nights and longer evenings signal the start of the Bonfire and Halloween season and we’re urging all residents to do what they can to stay safe this October and November.

In line with advice from our three national Fire and Rescue Services it’s recommended that you attend an organised firework display. Fireworks can be dangerous so it’s the safest way to enjoy Bonfire Night.

This time of year is an annual highlight for many families and communities but it can also bring worries for the elderly and vulnerable, with an increase in reported anti-social behaviour.

Please respect any neighbours displaying “no trick or treaters” posters when you’re out at Halloween and respect others if you’re having your own celebrations at Halloween or Bonfire Night.

Halloween safety tips

  • Check that any Halloween costumes you buy carry the CE mark, this is evidence that it is safe to use
  • Take care with any candles – you could invest in a flameless LED candle for a safe alternative
  • If a Halloween costume does catch fire remember to ‘stop, drop and roll’ for safety
