Runners raise more than £3300 for charity at Cardiff Half Marathon

Runners from Wales & West Housing Group raised more than £3300 for charity after taking on the challenge of completing Cardiff Half Marathon.

19 colleagues from North, South and West Wales were among the 27,500 participants for this year’s race in the Welsh capital.

There was dual inspiration for the team of runners – fundraising for the company’s four staff charities while competing in a Business Challenge.

Donations came from a variety of sources, including colleagues, friends, family and businesses and suppliers which Wales & West Housing Group works with.

Money will be split equally between the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Cerebral Palsy Cymru, Parkinson’s UK Cymru and Cymru Versus Arthritis.

Gareth Thomas, Head of Development for West Wales, brought the team together as part of Wales & West Housing’s 60th anniversary celebrations, which has seen staff complete a series of fundraising challenges.

Gareth said: “I’m so proud of everyone. Our team had a mix of seasoned runners, some returning to running for the first time in years and some running for the first time. Running a half marathon is a considerable challenge regardless of experience so it was a real achievement.

“Most importantly, we have raised vital funds for our staff charities so that they can continue the amazing work that they do.”

The money raised by the running team will be added to Wales & West Housing Group’s total fundraising, which is nearly at £10,000 since the start of the year.

Donations are still open for the Cardiff Half Marathon team at https://www.justgiving.com/page/wwhhalf

Cardiff Half Marathon is Wales’ largest mass participation event and attracted a field of 27,5000 registered runners in 2025.
