A Journey through seasons

Idyllic landscape in the Alps, tree, grass and mountains

Across our schemes, our ground maintenance teams work all-year-round keeping the open areas around your homes looking tidy.

Cambria Maintenance Services have three teams of ground maintenance operatives, who work along with site superintendents, to look after our sites.

Outside of the typical tasks the teams might also help with grant-funded environmental projects to plant trees and bulbs to bring colour to our communities.

Here’s what a typical year looks like

Spring/summer – March to September

Spring is the time when everything comes back to life and our ground maintenance teams get their mowers, strimmers and blowers out. This time of year, is what we call the “cutting season”. During the early part, it is also the bird nesting season, when it is illegal to cut back trees and hedges until nesting birds’ chicks have fledged and left their nests. Typical work during this time might include:

  • cutting grass for the first time after winter
  • routine mowing and strimming
  • managing weeds
  • cleaning up sites and litter-picking

Autumn/winter – October to February

Outside the growing season, it’s time when the teams can focus on the type of work that can’t be done in the summer, for example cutting back trees and hedges.

Typical work might include:

  • cleaning up sites and litter-picking
  • trimming hedges and shrubs and pruning trees
  • cleaning moss from paths
  • checking trees for potential winter hazards
  • clearing leaves, died back vegetation and other debris
