Love where you live

Meet the residents who love where they live

Our Community Development Officers (CDOs) play an important part in bringing communities together to take pride in the places where they live.

Cardiff CDO Claire Ashby worked with Keep Wales Tidy and Cardiff Council’s waste enforcement teams, during the Easter holidays, to organise a series of litter picks and Easter egg hunts in Tongwynlais, Splott and Fairwater.

Cambria Maintenance Services carried out a community litter pick with residents in Fairwater, Cardiff as a thank you after spending three months installing new kitchens in some of the homes in the area. They were joined by residents, staff and our partners Keep Wales Tidy, Love Where You Live, Cardiff Council and PCSOs from South Wales Police.

In a couple of hours, they collected around 20 bags of litter and other bulky items from the area.

Residents and their children who took part were presented with Easter eggs, which were donated by local business CMB Engineering.

In Tongwynlais, Clare was one of the residents who took part in a community litter pick at St Catherine’s Drive, where she has lived for 23 years.

Clare says she is proud of the village where she lives and does her best to keep her community clean and tidy.

“I do take pride in where we live, it’s in my family,” she says.

“My father has lived in Tongwynlais for 73 years and he worked for the Community Council cutting the grass verges around Ton. His father did it before him and now my brother-in-law does it. So, my family are known for keeping Ton looking neat and tidy.

“I go out with my friend Debbie to pick up litter around our homes, whenever we can.”

Together with staff from WWH, Clare helped to collect seven bags of litter from around the scheme.

Bob Moger has been presented with a certificate of appreciation for giving up his time to keep the estate where he lives clean and tidy.

He can be regularly found litter picking around Powell Road in Buckley, North Wales, and staff presented him with an award and small gift to say thank you.

Judith Sellwood, Community Development Officer, said: “Bob’s work makes life better for everyone on Powell Road and we wanted to recognise how valued his contribution is.

“Clearing up litter and making the estate look neat and tidy doesn’t just happen. The hours Bob spends litter picking and doing other jobs around the estate really does make a big difference.”
