Protected: We’re building almost 800 new homes across Wales
With more people needing homes, we’re busy building a range of homes for affordable rent on 15 sites across Wales. They range from extra care apartments to city centre apartments and larger family homes in rural locations.
South Wales
327 new homes are under construction. This includes two extra care schemes, one at Myrtle Close, Penarth and the other in the centre of Brecon. When completed next year, Hafan Y Dderwen, Penarth, will provide 70 self-contained apartments for over 55s. A further 70 extra care apartments will be ready to welcome residents in Brecon in 2028.
In Cardiff we’re working on two apartment developments with our construction partners BECT Ltd. The largest is at Cowbridge Road East, in the shadow of the Principality Stadium, where the foundations are being laid for 81 apartments. In Wedal Road 23 one-bed apartments are being built on the site of a former youth hostel.
12 more homes are being built in Pomeroy Street, Cardiff Bay and 15 new homes are nearing completion at Heol Y Pentir, Rhoose.
West Wales
Over 160 new homes are currently under construction across six sites.
32 of these are scheduled to be handed over by the end of the year – 12 at Angorfa, the former Ship and Anchor pub in Fishguard; and 20 at Twr y Graig, our new development which is being built on the site of the old Aberaeron Hospital in Ceredigion.
Work is well underway at Derwen Deg, a development of 48 homes on the former Lidl site in Carmarthen, and 51 homes on New Mill Road in Cardigan, which will be known as Maes y Pererin when complete.
Construction started this summer at Maes Bodlondeb, where 12 houses and 6 apartments are being built by Castlemead Group on the site of a former care home in Abersytwyth.
At the former Cardigan Hospital, 20 new homes, offices and a community cafe are expected to be completed in 2029 following the start of construction earlier this summer. Local company Jamson Estates are the Principal Contractor for the project which will see the historic Priory House retained as part of the development, and views of St Mary’s Church opened up for residents to enjoy for the first time in decades.
North Wales
Residents have been settling into more than 80 homes which have been completed in North Wales since the start of the year.
More than 100 new homes are still under construction in the region across three developments – 31 homes at Maes Ysgubor in Bodelwyddan and 28 homes at The Roe in St Asaph, both in Denbighshire, and 54 homes at Glan Y Mor, on Bay View Road in Colwyn Bay, Conwy. All of the homes will be available for social rent, allocated through local authority housing waiting lists.
